Second Secretary General Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Rory Montgomery has been Second Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, dealing with EU issues, since October 2016. He was previously Ireland’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Irish Ambassador to France, and the Taoiseach’s EU adviser. He is responsible for the overall co-ordination of Irish EU policy and for Ireland’s role in the EU-UK negotiation process, working closely with the Department of Taoiseach and within the overall framework of the Government’s Brexit policy
