Director of the EU-UK Unit, EU Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Ronan Gargan is Director of the EU-UK Unit in the EU Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The EU-UK Unit is responsible for preparing Ireland for the EU’s negotiations with the UK on its withdrawal from the Union under Article 50 of the Treaties and for the negotiations on the UK’s future relationship with the EU. Previously, Ronan has worked as the Director of the Irish Abroad Unit dealing Ireland’s diaspora policy, as the Deputy Political Director for Northern Ireland in the Ireland, UK and Americas Division in the Department and in Brussels as policy coordinator in the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the European Union. He has also worked previously as the Advisor on EU Affairs in the Irish Parliament (Oireachtas) and as Ireland’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg
