Chief Science Officer, XL Catlin
Mike is a Natural Sciences graduate from the University of Cambridge, where he majored in biology and geology: he has a PhD in astrophysics and more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry. As Chief Science Officer for XL Catlin Insurance, he applies his combined knowledge and experience to help colleagues make wellinformed risk assessments.
He also identifies underwriting opportunities coming from new developments in science and advises on science-related activities. Having joined the Catlin Group in 2002, Mike spent ten years underwriting space risks, before being appointed to his current role in 2012. He is an ACII qualified Chartered Insurer, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a member of XL Catlin’s Emerging Risks Task Force.
