Michael A. Butt

Michael has been Chairman of the Board of AXIS Capital Holdings Limited since 2002 with over 50 years of insurance industry experience. His career includes periods as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mid Ocean Limited in Hamilton, Bermuda when it was acquired by XL Capital Ltd and he served as a Director of XL Capital Ltd.

He is a past Vice Chairman and Director of the Association of Bermuda International Companies and past Chairman of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers. He was a founding member of The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies in 1996. Michael was awarded the Bermuda Insurance Institute Lifetime Award in 2008. In 2011, he was appointed as an OBE for services to Bermuda and the reinsurance industry.
