Karel Van Hulle

Associate Professor at the Economics and Business Faculty of the KU Leuven

Prof. Karel Van Hulle is Associate Professor at the Economics and Business Faculty of the KU Leuven and Honorary Professor at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he is attached to the International Centre for Insurance Regulation (ICIR). He retired from the European Commission in March 2013 where one of his major projects was the development and negotiation of Solvency II. Karel studied law at the KU Leuven and at the Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee (Wisconsin). He was nominated Distinguished Lecturer in Accounting by the American Accounting Association in 1990, Distinguished Fellow of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in 2013 and Honorary Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2014.
