Michael Leahy

Michael Leahy joined PIA in January 2010 and became Managing Director in June 2010.

Michael’s time in PIA has seen the business triple in size and in 2019 M&G plc transferred its European insurance businesses into PIA as part of Brexit preparation. Growing the European side of the business is a key focus for the future. In addition to managing PIA Michael is involved in R&D across M&G.

Prior to joining Prudential Michael held a number of senior roles in Standard Life including CEO of Standard Life’s domestic Irish business, Managing Director of Standard Life International and Marketing Director of Standard Life UK.

Michael has a wide range of knowledge and experience covering the technical and commercial aspects of financial services  which he is able to combine in creative ways to develop solutions to both strategic and tactical problems. Michael has strong communication skills including the ability to articulate a compelling vision and motivate people to  deliver and successfully manage stakeholders along the way. He has significant experience in insurance start-ups and turnarounds having led two of each and been involved in two more.

Michael is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and holds an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
